Power up Wales
Funded training for low carbon technologies through the Flexible Skills Programme (FSP)
Electrical contractors in Wales now have the opportunity to access 50% funding for EVCP training, a key low-carbon technology, through the Welsh Government’s Flexible Skills Programme (FSP).
This initiative is led by the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) and delivered by NICEIC, the UK’s leading certification body for the electrical industry. It’s designed to help your business stay compliant with upcoming regulatory changes, diversify your services, and futureproof your workforce.
Why does this matter?
From October 2026, new rules under the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) will require electricians and Qualified Supervisors (QSs) working on or supervising EV, solar, or battery installations to hold, or be actively working towards, the specific Level 3 qualification(s).
How NICEIC can support
Our new Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points (2921-34), virtual, Level 3 Award gives you a cost-effective, supported route to meet the requirements for EVCP installations and grow your business in the process.
How to access the 50% funded training

This qualification is fully aligned with the Electrician Plus model, the latest EAS, including Mandatory Technical Competence (MTC) criteria for EV charging, and is recognised by MCS and NICEIC.
Benefits to your business
Participating in this training will enable your business to diversify services, improve staff retention, and meet growing demand for low-carbon technologies. Upskilled staff will be able to deliver new services, improve customer satisfaction, and support your business in achieving long-term sustainability.
How the funding works?
- 50% of training costs are reimbursed by the Welsh Government.
- Funding is paid after training is completed.
- Each business applies individually (no group applications).
- Training must be completed by 31 March 2027.
- Training must not start until your application is approved.
We’ll help you apply
We know the paperwork can be a barrier - so we’re making it easy. ECA and NICEIC will:
- provide semi-populated application templates
- support you through the Skills Development Plan.
