About this course

This electrical course gives you a highly advanced understanding of the work that goes into the designs and specifications behind day-to-day installations. Providing a level of knowledge that has the potential to open lots of doors for your career. 

It covers design calculations and the application of BS 7671 and related guidance in the safe and effective design of an installation. 

This is a five day course, with extra time outside of training required for a project-based assignment.

Who is this course for

This electrical training is perfect for those who are looking at the next step in their career and considering a move into a more technical, desk-based role. It's also for any one who might be looking at later unlocking a technician grade for their ECS card, or simply for someone that wants an advanced understanding of electrical installation design principles.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this qualification. However, it is strongly recommended that learners have completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship or, at a minimum, hold a qualification in inspection and testing, as well as the current edition of the wiring regulations.

  • Relevant statutory and non-statutory requirements. 
  • Electrical installation design. 
  • Installation methods. 
  • Verification procedures. 
  • Design, installation and verification in line with the requirements of BS 7671. 

How is this course assessed?

The assessment of this qualification involves the following two aspects. 

  • A project-based assignment. 
  • A written assessment. 

Note: You may be able to utilise your own real-world work-based projects to act as evidence for recognition of prior learning (RPL) against the project-based assignment.

  • Non-programmable calculator. 
  • Ruler, pens, pencils, rubber.
  • A copy of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 - Requirements for Electrical Installations. 
  • A copy of Amendment 3:2024 (download for free from the NICEIC website). 
  • A copy of the Corrigendum (May 2023) to BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 (download for free from the IET website). 
  • A copy of IET Electrical Installation Design Guide: Calculations for Electricians and Designers. 
  • A copy of IET Guidance Note: Guidance Note 1.
