About this course

Achieving this qualification will enable you to take on a broader range of responsibilities, expanding the scope of work you can perform and creating new opportunities for career progression.

You will gain the confidence and expertise needed to carry out and document the inspection and testing of new electrical installation work. Additionally, this qualification can serve as evidence for meeting the criteria required for Qualified Supervisor status and the Approved Electrician JIB grade, further enhancing your professional
credentials.

Who is this course for

This qualification is designed for electricians who already hold a relevant Level 3 Electrotechnical
qualification and wish to further their professional development. It offers an opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills in the initial verification of
electrical installations.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for
undertaking this qualification. However, it is expected that you will hold a relevant Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification.

What will you learn?

• The legal responsibilities of an inspector.
• The reasons for electrical inspection.
• How to complete electrical certificates.
• Practical inspection and the testing procedures.

How is this course assessed?

This City & Guilds qualification assessment includes the following.

1. A practical assignment including the following elements.

Task A: Initial verification and certification of a complete installation
Task B: short answer questions.

2. An online multiple-choice test.

What do you need to have with you?

To get the best out of this training you should have access to each of the following for the duration of the course. 

• BS 7671 IET Requirements for Electrical Installations 18th Edition Regulations (latest revision).
• IET Guidance Note 3 Inspection & Testing (latest revision).
• Calculator (to satisfy exam conditions, this cannot be part of a smartphone application, Google watch, or any device that can access the internet).
• Calibrated test instruments.
• Safe Isolation kit (including a voltage indicator, proving unit, lock-off device, and warning labels).

Not having the above items for the duration of the training will compromise the quality of the learning and significantly reduce the chance of success in the open book assessment. 

You’ll need photo ID on the day of the examination; please note failure to provide this will result in you not being able to sit the exam.
