About this course

Successful candidates from this plumbing course will receive a certificate of competence in compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 (England and Wales) and the Water Byelaws 2000 (Scotland) and meet the requirements of Water Regulations UK, of which the majority of the UK water companies are members. 

This course also provides one of the elements required to support you in applying for one of the approved contractor schemes that make up WaterSafe.

Who is this course for

Individuals who are looking to join one of the approved contractor schemes that make up WaterSafe and for plumbing/heating engineers involved in the installation, commissioning, service and repair of hot water systems, solar thermal hot water systems or air/ground source heat pumps.

What are the entry requirements?

Candidates must hold one or more of the following.

  • Appropriate S/NVQ Level 2 or 3 or BTEC or equivalent. 
  • Appropriate industry registration scheme, for example, Gas Safe Register, ACS, OFTEC 105E or equivalent. 
  • At least two years' industry experience of installation of domestic heating and hot water systems currently un-certificated skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2 or 3 supported by witness testimony from an appropriate responsible person. 
  • At least two years' industry experience of design and advice services of domestic heating and hot water systems to NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent supported by witness testimony from an appropriate responsible person.

  • Consumption limitations for washing machines, dishwashers and other appliances. 
  • Requirements for water supplied for outside use. 
  • Requirements for hygienic work practices. 
  • Legislation surrounding the installation of supply pipes. 
  • How to become a WaterSafe Approved Contractor. 

How is this course assessed?

This NICEIC Certification assessment includes a theory examination.

On expiry of the certificate (five years), candidates are eligible to take reassessment. Previous certificates must be presented to the assessment centre as evidence of holding the initial qualification. 

What do you need to have with you?

  • Evidence to meet pre-requisite requirements such as certificates/qualifications. 
  • A recent passport size quality photograph. 
  • Photo ID will be required on the day of the examination; please note failure to provide this will result in the candidate not being able to sit the examination.
