About this course

This electrical course is designed to make you a safer worker by showing you how to recognise when electrical equipment and systems have been safely isolated and are ready to be worked on. 

For some attendees this will be a refresher of your fundamental safety knowledge, while for others in allied trades this could deliver valuable, life-saving electrical training for work involving electrical hazards.

Who is this course for

The course is suited for electricians hoping to improve knowledge of the fundamentals to follow on a day-to-day basis and potentially develop better habits regarding safe isolation. 

This electrical course will also be valuable to any allied tradespeople who might work around electrical systems and equipment and want to understand how to safely do so. 

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates enrolling on this course. However, it is expected that participants will have a basic understanding of electrical installation principles.

What will you learn?

  • The Electricity at Work Regulations. 
  • Voltage testing equipment types and compliance. 
  • Safe isolation considerations. 
  • Safe systems of work. 
  • Practical safe isolation techniques explained and demonstrated. 

How is this course assessed?

Candidates are assessed using a combination of knowledge assessment methods and observation of practical application.

What do you need to have with you?

  • Calculator
  • Note-taking material (recording devices not permitted) 

The following equipment will be available for use during the course. 

  • Two-pole voltage indicator to GS 38 standard. 
  • Proving unit. 
  • Lock-off kit suitable for securing various devices. 

Alternatively, you might prefer to bring your own equipment, providing it meets the appropriate safety standards.
